I am very concerned that this time, I am taking so long to heal even though I was told it is a much less serious fracture. While a Jones fracture is often slow to heal, in some cases, it may not heal at all. In 2014, I had a 5th metatarsal fracture of my right foot also spiral mid-shaft, and that was a really bad fracture that was displaced. The orthopedist told me that even though the x-rays have not changed I should not be in a cast anymore, and that being immobilized in a cast at this point is inhibiting healing. Since then I have had a consult with an orthopedic surgeon who is a foot and ankle specialist. I was recasted on April 23 and am still in that cast. ![]() I went back and my x-rays had not changed, the fracture is still non-union. ![]() I stayed immobile for six weeks in bed, not walking.
